Mehmet Eryılmaz graduated from the Radio & Television

department of Marmara University and went on to study at the

Film & Television Department of Mimar Sinan University.

He has written about cinema and directed

dozens of commercials and video clips.

Eryılmaz has earned recognition known for his cultural films

on traditional Turkish musicians, as well as for his

documentaries, The Songs of Nazım Hikmet and Bedr: A Full Moon

in Film (Tuncel Kurtiz). He performed as an actor in Nuri

Bilge Ceylan’s Climates. He made his first fiction feature,

Hazan Mevsimi (A Fairground Attraction), in 2008, following

this up in 2015 with Misafir (The Visitor)

His films have screened at numerous national and international festivals.

Hehas also served as a jury member at many festivals, as well as

for the Turkish Ministry of Culture’s Film Funding Committee.

He has edited and published books on cinema, among them

Tarkovsky’s memoirs and conversations with Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

He has won 25 awards for his films, including the Fipresci and grand jury

prize at the Montreal World Film Festival. Over the years, he

has trained hundreds of short, documentary and feature film

students and supported their projects both technically and

physically at the script and editing stages. Through the

online script doctoring website he set up with leading Turkish

screenwriter, Gülden Çakır, at www.senaryografi.com, he has

mentored a number of important local films.

SYNOPSIS

B e h i n d  B a r s

Zerda is a young woman who was convicted of murdering her boyfriend and became a mother involuntarily. Esra, the wife of the man she killed, is a middle-aged mother with a sick daughter. The last chance for the survival of her daughter is the matching marrow that will be transplanted from Zerda’s son. Esra begins to see Zerda in prison to persuade her. However, Zerda, angry and wounded, has no intention of signing the necessary permit paper for the marrow transplant operation. Zerda begins to play a game with Esra. Their meetings grow more and more vexing each time. The two women almost fall apart; TWO WOMEN opens the box of Pandora. All that is known about womanhood, maternal instinct, love, human nature, and spiritual and psychological aspects of the relationship between man and woman come out in the open.
